A friend of mine has 98 Accord I4 auto with about 200K miles on it. A little less than a week ago she got in back from a shop to have the IACV fixed and the head gasket supposedly replaced. Last night the car would not start and only clicked when she turned the key. All the lights worked so I tested the battery and it had 12.4 volts and the terminals were clean. I checked the connections at the starter and the tab to the relay was covered in grime so I cleaned it off and it started right up fine. Today the car wouldn’t start again just like last night. I’m going to go over tomorrow to work on it some more. I don’t have a load tester to check the battery with so unless I can somehow use my multimeter to do that test, that’s out. I’ll do a voltage drop test for both the positive and ground to the starter. I’ve watched a couple of Eric’s videos on starter problems and he mentioned checking the neutral safety and anti theft systems. How would I check those if 98 Accords even has them? I’m hoping that it’s just a problem with the connector again but if it’s not what else can I check on the car to figure out the problem? Since the car did start last night I think it’s safe to assume that the problem is electrical and not mechanical.
Also if I have to pull the starter how do I get access to the bolt closer to the firewall? It’s under the distributor, a radiator, and several wiring harnesses and I’d like to disassemble as little as possible.
      Thanks in advance.

The click that happens when it won’t start – is that a small click from the fuse box (relay) or a larger click from the starter (solenoid)?

Get your battery load tested. If it’s OK, pull the starter and have it tested.
