My car had the second gear slam for about two years. Now the problem is so bad that its not drivable (I got every last of it), the check engine light says P0730 incorrect gear ratio. I’m thinking the transmission is finally toast. Does anyone have an opinion/experience using the JDM transmissions? I’m thinking about doing this myself, I have tools, and shop manual. The one item I don’t have is the transmission jack, I saw one at harbor freight for $140, does anyone have an opinion on that also, like how hard is it to mate the replacement transmission back? Removal seems a lot easier.

      Would greatly appropriate any thoughts.

      Thanks

Does anyone have experience changing BAXA transmission with MCJA. Do all the sensors need to be swapped? Does the ECU recalibrate to the new final gear ratio, will there be a problem going into lockup? These are things I’ve found online that people have been discussing, but no final answers were given.

          Any body?

I would stick with the same transmission that was in there. It’s very important you use Honda fluid in that transmission and make sure you check the fluid with the engine OFF not running. These 2 things are the most common causes of transmission problems on Honda’s in my experience. You will need a transmission jack but you might be able to rent one instead of buying one, this should save you some money. Those transmissions aren’t known for problems like their V6 counterparts, that said you might be able to pick up a low milage transmission from a salvage yard instead of purchasing a new or rebuilt one.

I completed the swap from baxa to mcja. The following sensors/solenoids were replaced with baxa, lock-up solenoid, clutch solenoid, mainshaft speed sensor, counter shaft speed sensor. After that it all simple swap. Car is running great.

The other fact is that the gear ratios are different, this makes speedo/rpm different. Otherwise, the gear shifting is very smooth, good torque and responsive. I’m happy I did this rather then buying a other used car.
