as title says i have a 97 honda civic dx non-vtec engine and the oil was leaking i believe i have fixed the leak but now im smelling a burning smell and i believe its the oil. My car is a manual tranny could it be the hydraulic fluid the problem is that the reservoir for the hydraulic fluid and brake fluid are full. Does anyone know what else it could be or could it be the oil is just burning off of the engine b/c there was a quiet bit of oil on the engine from the leak

its probably left over oil. keep tabs on the car oil level.C8-) If it drops than theres still a leak. if it stays full than is residual.

I agree, it’s probably the oil that is left over from the leak. If it was brake fluid you would see the level drop.

You may want to clean the area around (and directly above) the exhaust manifold because that’s more than likely where the smell is coming from.

+1 on the above posts and keep an eye on your oil level.

You also may want to take a look at your PCV valve if you suspect excessive blow-by causing the oil loss. If that’s the case, a compression test would be in order.

            Good luck.

I often see oil leak onto the exhaust on Honda engines causing the ‘smell’ you speak off. +1 on monitoring the oil level and keeping an eye out for leaks.
