97 civic…seafoam

      this car has 236,000 miles on it and it seems 2 be starting 2 show its age a smidge…..i have no codes or MIL light or nothing just feels like it has less power then it used to i do take good car of this car so i kno its not me….i was considering running some seafoam through it rate before i change my oil….any suggestions? do you think this is a good idea im kinda hesitant to do it

        I would be doing a compression and a leak down test. If that comes back good then it could be time for some regular maintenance such as a tune up for an example.

        Ive never used Seafoam but i have read alot about it. So i have no real experience of personal use to really comment on it.

          Before you go for the seafoam which I don’t think your going to see much difference from (I don’t think it would hurt anything either) you might consider checking the timing belt tension as over time it can develop slack that can rob some power, I might check this since you have already done a tune up, here is a video that shows how I set the tension. Next check your exhaust for old or possibly restrictive parts like a muffler that might be filled with rust as this can also rob power.

            thanks for yoyr response i did a plugs and wires change about 4000 miles ago and oil n filter 2000 ago…what would be ideal compression numbers for this engine? d16

              thanks eric! i dont know what id do without you i will check the tension and since u said it shouldnt hurt…just for s h i t s and giggles im gonna run it threw and then change the oil….thanks again all!
