I have a no crank/no start situation with my 97 chevy C1500. Battery juice is good, I can get the starter to engage when jumping at relay point. I’m not recieving power at starter relay from the ignition, shows a ground instead. Tried shifting through ranges and still no start. I’m starting to suspect the nuetral safety switch, so i’m wondering if i can bypass it some how in order to test the switch. Fuses are all good, relay tests good, good ground, good battery, good voltage to ecm, brand new starter 😉 (old one had cracked solenoid cover and was old so just replaced) The sterring column was repaired 3 years ago due to vandalism/attempted theft and I’ve been missing the indicator light for park for about a year; so those are my two prime suspects. I have power to the 2 reds at the ignition and power to the yellow when key is turned to run. I think when i jumped at the starter at the relay point I may have blown a fuse for my dash lights; lost all dashlights after performing. Will check that out tommorrow when temperature is more favorable, 15 degrees right now. I’d appreciate any help, a good link to some decent wiring diagrams would be awesome too; Chilton and Haynes don’t supply the best diagrams. banana:

Here is the wiring diagram. There is a fuse in the circuit and the yellow wire goes from the ignition to the start relay through the neutral switch or clutch.
I appreciate the link, unfortunately it is the same diagram I have. Though taking a second I had an epiphany. I was caught up in thinking the diagram was generic and leaving something out; but looking again I see that if I turn the key and get power on yellow, then the ignition switch is functioning properly and sending power towards the nuetral safety switch. Pin 86 on the starter relay shows ground (I need to double check power with key turned to start) therefore the problem has got to be at the nuetral safety switch or it’s wiring. That is the only thing in line between those 2 points? I was worried about a crank position sensor, but I assume this is not in the starting circuit and must be wired directly to the ecm.

I take it, I can jump purple to purple at the switch and I should bypass it? The 10A crank fuse must be refering to the interior fuse box, so that would be good if so.
According to the wiring diagram there is no neutral safety switch. That function is actually a part of the PRNDL switch. Unless you have a manual transmission which uses a clutch switch. If you have power coming out of the ignition switch but not at the solenoid I would check the operation of the PRNDL switch by checking for power at the starter relay coil input from the purple wire. I can’t read the terminal sorry. Don’t rule out a wiring issue. Be sure to check the purple wire coming out of the PRNDL switch as well.
