I have a 97 Buick Park Avenue. The car came stock with rear air shocks though they where replaced when one failed and got stuck fully compressed.
I Replaced the stock Air Shocks with a Conversion Kit From Napa and the upper mounts keep failing. The Kit Is Shock with a spring on it.

They were installed correctly according to what the package said.
They have already needed to be replaced once before only because one failed and now both have failed again.
I Replaced them before a 2,400 mile trip this weekend and their already starting to creak and squeak again.
I would have used the old upper-mounts but I had already thrown the old shocks with the mounts away.

Perhaps the problem is with the compressor not keeping the shocks inflated. This might cause significant pounding. A little more info could help.

this also might be one of those parts where the aftermarket just fails epically and OE is the better way to go.

dont know if its feasible, but have you ever considered replacing the air setup with a standard strut type suspension?

Actually its a conversion Kit from Air Shocks to Regular Shocks with springs on them. Forgot to mention it. Edited The post with better information.

do they physically fail or is it just noise?

It may be the parts you’re using. Not all parts are created equal. It may have nothing to do with your install but rather the parts themselves. I have another thought. Has the vehicle been in a collision? If so perhaps the mounts or control arms are out of alignment and as a result it’s causing them to fail early.

OK. I studied your pictures. The nut is on upside down. the cup part should go down instead of up. That will secure the pivot ball in the retainer.

The cup was up on the OEM mounts. Though it may just help the problem along.

How are they failing? are the springs ajustable? maybe to tight? i agree with one user there is nothing better than OEM. you can use a regular shock in this car (with out the air ride) as long as you dont have air springs.

The car had coil springs with air shocks in the rear that would pump up to maintain ride height. And all I have done so far is replace the rear air shocks with a conversion kit which keeps the ride height, and They seam to start squeaking before the upper mount finally fails. This is just like what I installed. http://www.strutmasters.com/Park-Avenue-Rear-Air-Suspension-Conversion-Kit-p/-cad-r5ns-bp.htm

I just changed the rear shocks out with Monroe Air-Max on the back end of an 03’s Park AVe, That cup at the top of the shock is supposed to tighten down SNUG into the fingered bushing. These look like the wrong shocks.

Here’s what it looked like when I got done.
