1997 Chevy Blazer 2-door 4×4 – 4.3L.
I have been getting some banging noises from what sounds like the rear end when going over bumps. The noise worsens when it is cold or rainy out. It sounds like a steady bang when hitting a bump almost like a loose gas tank. I got under my blazer and pulled and tanked on everything and the only thing I could find was the left rear hub as a wobble and a knock when I yank back and forth on the wheel. The right side didn’t seem to do it nearly as much. At first I thought it was the metal brackets with the bushings that hang/mount the torsion bar cross member to the frame but now I am doubting it. The noise almost goes away when it is warm and dry out. I also wanted to mention I have had issue with the rear driver side axle seal. I had to replace it a second time after I had a brake issue where they hung up and over heated that wheel. The bearing seemed ok when I was last in there and the axle shaft looked normal for the millage. Has anyone else experienced this type of rear end popping/knock when going over bumps?
