I was curious to see if anyone knows anything about the ignition on this car. Friend has his car in the shop, theyve replaced the distributor 3 times already, and again there telling him its bad. What I was wondering is what’s causing the distributor to fail or are they just b s ing him.

Are they using a OEM factory Nissan distributor?
Your not just talking about the distributor cap are you?

          +1 on OEM parts.

Its going to be hard to determine if this issue is a miss-diagnostic without seeing there diagnostic procedures.

Is the vehicle at a Nissan dealership or an independent facility?

I believe that engine uses an optical pick up in the distributor and they are known for going bad therefore I would not recommend replacing one with a salvage unit. Personally I haven’t had trouble with the quality aftermarket units and they are a lot less than $1300. First be sure you are replacing the correct part however and make sure it’s the primary signal that’s not being seen causing the no spark condition, in short you might consider a second opinion. Good luck and keep us posted.

Nope, its not at a dealer. But they’ve replaced with ones from a salvage yard. Were its at there saying a new one runs $1300.00. (the whole distributor). That’s why I was wondering. The car is in a little shop and they were telling him he needs to decide what to do. But they probably already did something by now.
