Yeasterday I was just thinking how reliable this car has been. bad thing to think.

This morning the shift lever will not move out of “Park”. Had to use the manual override.

Thinking of how this interlock probably works off the brake light switch, I checked, and the brake light don’t come on.

I look under the dash and the %$#%#&&#!! switch is mounted in a little constricted narrow dark cubbyhole, it looks like you could only remove it by harnessing a platoon of trained aphids. Or by undoing a passel of bolts and moving the steering column aside.

Anybody know of a trick for removing this thing?

      Thanks.

Thanks Eric, that’s close to the situation on the ’96, except that there are a few more thick cables from the fusebox in the way. Also if you have cruise control, there are four wires to the plug, making it twice as hard to maneuver and plug in the plug. If you unbolt the fusebox, you can nudge it almost a whole inch to the left and give you a twice more room. Even then the only way I can get the switch in is with the plug in place, by counting the number of turns I have to screw in the switch, pre-twist the wires CCW that many turns, plug it in, then screw in the brake switch, so the wires end up happy and untwisted. About 8 turns.
