96 Honda Accord rich start

      Time for me to ask my question to the masses. I’m working on a 96 Honda accord 2.2L non vtec auto will about 200xxx miles on it. I am experiencing “rich” cranks. Have pulled the plugs and found they are covered in gas. What can cause this? I have a few ideas but would like a few minds on this issue.

        I would look at the ignition system. I know yours runs.

          Thanks college man. I pulled the plugs the are covered in gas. So Ill have to replace them. This is the second time this year. Correct me if I wrong but cant a bad coolant temperature sensor cause this to happen? too much gas in chamber at crank? That or a fuel pressure regulator? I have been experiencing excessive fuel consumption. Also Thanks for the timing idea but on this vehicle the timing is non adjustable.

            you are correct on the things you mention.With the plugs fuel
            soaked.I figure the spark could be weak.Thats why I suggested to
            start there.If the spark is tested and you have a solid spark to
            each cylinder. Then the next thing would be the FPR.Does the car
            idle correct? I would think if the CTS was at fault your idle would
            be off/high.
