I have a Transmission problem. I replaced the disturbitor, spider injectors, and coil due to Multible missfire now runs perfect my dad failed to mention trans problem before all this work. new problem is it will shift fine 1st and 2nd for 3rd it has to rev to at least 6k rpm to shift to 3rd i pulled a quart of fluid and replaced with lucas no change any insight would be greatly appreciated thank you

Number one, I wouldn’t rev the 4.3 motor that high ever. Those things run out of balls around 5000 anyway. Second, the transmission is obviously slipping real bad for 3rd gear. Either the clutch bands are bad for third gear or you have a solenoid issue. Is the car throwing any engine or transmission codes? That should help you diagnose any issues. Yours is a 96 so that’s the first year for OBDII. You probably have a 4L60E and those are pretty robust transmissions. How many miles are on the vehicle? If it’s a high miler you could probably use a rebuild. But then you are running into issues with spending more money on the vehicle than it’s worth.
Thanks hockey its my dads truck he’s got the mindset that its cheaper than a car payment so hes got me into looking into a reman or having this one rebuilt it has 260xxx miles on it so i agree the new car light is on but my dad is hardheaded so i was hoping there might be a vaccum line or something easy ive overlooked or missed..
