      Good evening,

I just took a multimeter to my Ram using ETCG’s video on tracking a Parasitic Draw and discovered that my draw is about 250ma from the I.O.D. fuse(17). I could use suggestions on what could be causing this drain or where to check next to narrow it down further.

Thank you Eric for the Parasitic Draw video.

      Thank You,

      David L

IOD ignition off draw. If it is out, some things like radio, dome lights, power mirrors, etc will not work. The fuse itself is not where your draw is. It is just showing up there. One of your accessories that takes time to go to sleep, though I dont remember your truck having anything like that, maybe a light, security system, something else is drawing. Start pulling other fuses till you see the drain stop. Is it killing your battery? Have you waited and watched to see how long the drain/draw last?

I waited about an hour after shutting the vehicle down before going through it with the meter. I started with the engine fuse box checking the draw after pulling each fuse following Eric’s instructions. I stop at the F1 fuse 50A when it dropped to below 10ma. I pulled out my haynes manual to look at the wiring diagrams and determined that it was either 17 or 18 fuses. I pulled each separately and the park fuse(18) did not change however, the IOD (17) did.

I’m not sure what the iod circuit is. There are items common to pickups that will cause a parasitic power loss. The dome light socket, tail light sockets can become rusty and short out. Door jam switches also. If there is anything that’s been modified, such as the radio or hookups for aftermarket fog lights, plow controls etc, those are also worth checking into.

I looked up that fuse and it appears to go to the instrument cluster. Do you have issues with the cluster not working properly? If so, the cluster, or it’s wiring could be the cause of the problem. Try unplugging it to see if you still have the draw. If you don’t, you may have found the issue. If you do, it could be in the wiring somewhere.

              Please keep us posted

The only issue the the IC I can find is the Low Wash light is always on when the vehicle is even if the washer fluid is full

As stated you’re going to have to unplug the cluster to see if the draw goes away. Keep us posted.
