Hi all,
my car is stick shift and sometimes the stick cant turn left (1st and 2nd gear) side except with large force. when it happens and i pull it to the left, it doesnt bounce back to the center as if something is blocking it. i need to shift it to 5th/Reverse and neutral several times to get it working again.
i suspected it was the bushing under the stick turned bad but i cant go under the car to check as im still waiting for the safty stands. while i did some visual check today, i found all 3 motor mounts have cracks (maybe the 4th one at rear also bad but cant check at the moment). maybe its the cause of the stick issue because the engine tilted? im going to replace the mounts anyway but it seems that the OE mounts from Honda are very expensive. i would like to know if i really need OE mounts or any other after market mounts will do ? Appreciate all your advises!

Since you know that your engine mounts are cracked I would go ahead and replace them before doing anything else but they must be in very poor condition to cause the shifting issues.
You should use OEM mounts but being a 1996 if aftermarket mounts fit correctly they might be a less costly way out. They might not absorb vibration as well as OEM or last as long however.
