🙁 Stop at the store on the way to the gym tonight and when I came out the door will not open. It appears a common problems with Hondas. I have seen a read all kinds of things on the net and really don’t want to break any thing to open the door. I have seen videos of peple drilling hole into the door pillar and using a wire or screw driver to open the door. I have read about taking off the door panel to gain access to the latch. any tricks? Btw this really sucks. Its cold and damp and no garage and not much money to pay some one. Right before the holidays. Very sick relatives and all just makes the holidays more wonderful. Thanks for any help.

If you use the inside latch does the door open?
The door panel must be removed to inspect the components.
here is a video that should help.I sympathize with the holidays just a few days off now, but your best bet if the actual door latching rod has come off so that the interior and exterior handle’s no longer function is a locksmith with a thin steel end to unlatch it for you to do the repair collegeman posted.
Your other option is to hit say home depot and fashion a crude one yourself for a few bucks, you can ask them to cut it to around a meter in length (one of the thin steel bands they have there), and just notch the end with a grinder and drill to create one that will snag on it. If you have trouble doing this from outside along the window, or think you might be putting too much force on the window with it, yank the armrest piece and go in at it that way with a shorter length. If the latch just isn’t fully releasing, forget all of that, and just yank the armrest and pull a bit on the connecting rod going to it.
Keep in mind it will be $60 or so max for a locksmith to do this for you on a non-off hour basis.
Went to the pick and pull yard this morning and got a replacement door latch. It took me about 3 hour to repair. Most of the 3 hours was spent getting the door to open. Nothing like a bfh to get the job done. I had to break the top of the latch to get it to release. Once released it was not to bad of a job. Thanks for the encouragement. :silly:
I was going to say latch assembly when you said it wouldn’t open from the inside either. You did well. I’ve seen it take body shop guys all day to fix a problem like that. It’s not an easy job at all. Thanks for keeping us updated and for posting your fix.
