      1996 chrysler cirrus 2.5l v6

Originally the car wouldnt start when cold below 32 degrees it had no spark.

distributer was replaced first with no change (spark plugs and wires are also new)

ecu was then replaced. the car worked initially for a few days. then original problems occurred

crank sensor was then replaced, the car now starts but hear where it gets weird
after the sensor was replaced the idle is high around 1800 rpm hot or cold
after driving for a mile the check engine light came on and began to flicker almost at the same time the rpm began to jump around for the normal 1000 rpm to 3000 down to 500 and back to normal. when u accelerated u can feel the car buck misfire and backfire.
      unable to get code

idk what to do, what could be wrong or where to look. please help ive spent my savings trying to fix it with little avail.

Are you unable to pull a code from the computer or do you not have access to a scanner?

What was the exact code. Im just curious if its a random missfire or a repeated misfire. its most likely a random but if you have the code it could help. it could be a wiring issue somewhere, all the way to just a fuel pump, someone i know had the same symptoms and a new fuel pump fixed it so lets start with the code.

Changing the crank sensor doesn’t affect idle. I had an old Mitsubishi and when idle was too high the ECU cut off fuel. Idle dropped and fuel came back on. So, there was this idle surge with about a 1 second cycle.

Also, check the owner’s manual to see if it says anything concerning a flashing CEL. I think the answer is no. If no, that is a separate issue – probably electrical.

a flashing check engine light means cat damaging misfire

I’m not saying you are wrong but just asking if you sure the ECU in a 1996 Cirrus is programmed to flash the CEL during misfire?

it dosent flash it flickers really fast and erratically at the same time the engine is misfiring then stops and stays on once its done mis firing . idk it does it with the factory ecu and the new one we put in a month ago. i see nothing in the manual about the check engine light doing such a thing under normal operation

What you said about it flickering caught my eye. Some of the newer makes will flash the CEL for various reasons and tuners can also program the ECU to do this but you encounter tuner stuff on enthusiast cars and trucks. I never heard of a 1996 car doing this on a factory tune but there is a lot I don’t know.

An alternative explanation is that the power to the ECU is being momentarily interrupted and then the computer restarts. That would certainly cause some hiccups as you drive along. The fact that the light stays on but there’s no code on the ECU makes me wonder about its condition.

there is a code no i forgot the code but it said ignition/misfire . tried two ecus same issue one factory one new. it never did this before just started when they replaced the crank sensor. (they had a hard time getting the old one out too them a month)
