Here’s the deal. My Blazer seems to stall every time I stop at a red light, and if I leave it to idle for a while it will stall out and die. Any ideas what the problem is? I checked for codes and found non.

Also, I’ve been replacing tune-up parts on it, but it seems to be drinking more gas than normal. Would it be the fuel level sensor, or something else that wasn’t working before and is now? Sparkplugs 5 and 6 were both burned out and my fuel level sensor is needle on the dashboard is all over the place while I’m driving.

Resist the temptation to just start replacing parts especially if you haven’t confirmed that they’re bad. You say you fixed a vacuum leak but have you checked for any new ones? Probably not a bad idea based on your description. Also check for any air leaks in the tube that runs form the MAF sensor to the engine, any leaks here will cause performance problems and won’t show up under a check engine light.

Thanks, I should have thought of that, what do you use to check for vacuum leaks?

One more thing. When I replaced my sparkplugs, cylinder sparkplugs 5 & 6 had a white sparking prong, 3 & 4 were black, 1 & 2 seemed to be pretty normal, would this mean anything?

It depends on the colors actually. Clean white plugs would indicate a lean condition. If they are covered in white corrosion, there may be oil burning in the cylinders. Black corrosion/carbon build up indicates a rich condition. That vortech system is a PITA.

can you use lighter fluid to check for leaks, if you put the lighter on full jet with no flame? what exactly is a PITA system?

try a spray bottle full of water to look for the vacuum leaks. same procedure but with water.C8-)

                        Quoted From Chevy92:

Please do not use lighter fluid. Your just increasing the chance to have a engine fire. Best best is to use a portable propane bottle with a torch on it.

Take the bottle and open the valve (Do not light it)and begin passing the bottle by your vacuum lines. If you have a vacuum leak, the propane will get sucked in to the leak and you will have an increase in engine RPM.

                          K. How many vacuum lines am I supposed to have? The PCV line was replaced not long ago, and the brake’s vacuum hose is fine. If the air intake line is leaking behind the MAF, can I replace it with a metal aftermarket one?

There is probably a vacuum line diagram under the hood of your truck. Other places to check are around the intake manifold, at the brake booster etc. If you find that you have a leak in the air intake tube, I would go with a OEM plastic unit over a metal cold air system of some type, but that’s just me.

Yea I’m with the group, don’t use lighter fluid you’re better off with just plain water. To answer your question about plugs if they look similar to what is shown in this video you could be burning oil on those cylinders.

Ok, no vacuum leak. Could it be a stuck automatic choke? if so how can i fix it? stupid lap dog is bigger than my laptop, lol.

The vehicle does not have a ‘choke’. Are you referring to the IACV? (Idle Air Control Valve).

To answer your previous question, PID stands for Parameter Identification C8-)
