I take care of my girlfriend’s ’96 Camry. The car is the V6 LE Station Wagon model. The car has 192000 miles currently.
We are going on a road trip this summer and I want to make sure I do all maintenance possible to avoid any chance of breakdowns. The car runs like a champ, has no issues at this point other than an old ABS sensor that sometimes trips a code.
Anyway, the transmission works and shifts flawlessly and really smoothly. The fluid in it looks clean but I don’t know when it was last changed so I was thinking of changing it. What do you think? should I flush the system? Change only the fluid in the pan?

If you’re going to replace the fluid, I’d be inclined to drop the pan and change the filter, too.
FWIW, before the road trip, I would do a tune up if not done in recent memory(air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs and PCV), check and change the belts and hoses, inspect/repair the brakes and make sure the tires are good and the suspension is tight.
This should dramatically reduce the chance of a breakdown messing up your vacation.

          Thanks for the advice!
I will keep that in mind. I plan on doing a few other small maintenance things before that, the road trip isn’t happening until mid June, so I have time.
But definitely filters and plugs, belts and other things like that.

If it runs like a champ you could probably go coast to coast without any problems to be honest. But yeah, an oil change. Make sure your visors aren’t about to fall off. A cushion to support your needy gf’s feets when they’re up on your dash (joking). Equal tire pressure (32psi?x4 cold). Working radio antenna and/or smartphone. And cruise control.

                Thanks for all the responses!
Also thanks for reminding me, creativepotato, the antenna is currently broken and radio reception sucks. Will definitely be fixing that soon. Everything else audio related in that car is upgraded. New head unit, new speakers all round, and a custom built sub. It took me days to do all those upgrades but well worth it. That thing can turn heads haha 🙂 it’s nothing fancy, just unexpected from such a car.
