Hello all, my name is Joe and I was looking for some help with my 96 Honda Accord EX. The bottom line is that it is time to replace the headlights because they were so dingy, fix the side marker light because it was not flashing for turn or hazard, and fix the bumper. The rear of the car is still in great condition, all of the lights work in the back as expected. So I managed to get the front end off and the headlights removed. The bumper turn signals have been missing since I got it. There was a shade tree mechanic that set some little lights in the bumper for me but he did not secure them enough so they came out in no time and with that on the driver’s side the connector for the bumper light was lost and it looks like he had spliced the wires to get what was there working any way. So I know there I need to fix some wiring. The left side bumper light works and appears to be the original wiring.
Well until I can find the right connector I need to put everything back together. So I start to do so and to test everything out I put the new bulbs on the headlights and the side markers. Well the headlights work perfectly, the parking light in the side marker lights up as it should.
My Problem however is that the bulb in the side marker (the assembly beside the headlight) that goes in the amber section is not flashing, so it does not flash for turn signals or the hazard lights. They do turn on with the parking light switch and on while the headlights are on. For the driver side the dash light flashes rapidly, I figure for the bumper wiring problem. On the left side the dash flashes normally, the new bulb I put on the bumper turn signal on the left flashes, but the side marker does not flash or come on at all.

So I posted this question on Honda-tech.com and got a response that these side marker lights do not flash on a 96 Accord. I am inclined to believe this except I am pretty sure they had been flashing at one point. I cannot recall but I think they were flashing after having the make shift bumper lights disappear.

I was hoping you could help confirm this or perhaps set me in the direction to determine what the issue is.

So they flashed before you started messing with them? Or they always did nothing? I don’t know that year, but normally you should only have 1 set of bulbs that blink on the front and rear. You might also have a light that is a duel filament on say a 3 wire connector that does multiple things besides just flash. Do you have any other bulbs flashing?

Well, I will admit I am only pretty sure they had flashed at some point. They stopped working at all, even with the lights turned on. So as part of the big project I hoped replacing the bulbs would fix it, which took care of them coming on with the lights. neither of the connectors that go into the side marker appear to have 3 wires. On the front there are lower bumper turn signals, and the left side that actually has a connector at this point flashes. I can accept that I may be wrong and they never flashed and should not. That just means I have to try to track down the right size bumper lights since the ones I ordered do not fit the bumper.

          Thanks for the reply.

The corner lamps beside your headlights do NOT flash. Instead, the amber rectangular lights below the headlights in your lower bumper cover are your turn signal. At least that is the way it is on my 97 Accord, and I’m assuming the 96’s are the same.

Thank you for your reply, I am glad I was able to get clarification.
