Happy New Year’s Eve Everybody,
I’m using some holiday down time to work on an Accord I recently acquired. Aside from the fun I had breaking loose that pesky crank bolt, I’ve been taking it slow, enjoying myself. I’m replacing the timing belts, water pump, camshaft and crankshaft seals. On the other side, I will be replacing the vtech solenoid gaskets, the distributor seal (inner and outer o-ring). Also replacing coolant bypass pipe under distributor compromised by years of oil leaking. The valve cover gasket on this car might as well have been non existent. It’s one oily, greasy mess. Additionally, I’ll be replacing spark plug tube seals and spark plugs.
I do have a question for anyone who may know… One source I read recommended a tensioning procedure citing a TSB from Honda. Basically, after aligning the crank and cam pulleys with belt in place to TDC marks, it recommends backing the cam pulley 3 teeth counterclockwise to load additional tension to the tension side of belt…should still obviously return to TDC mark. This somehow helps the tensioner spring? Anybody familiar with this? I haven’t done an Accord belt service for several years. Just curious if anyone has heard of this. Thanks
