’96 Accord cruise control light flickers

I have a ’96 Accord LX 4 door, automatic. The cruise control works fine, maintains speed as it should, however from time to time the indicator light on the dash (not the light on the power button, the light on the upper right side of the dash which only comes on when the cruise is controlling speed) will flicker on and off. Sometimes it stays fully lit, sometimes it dims, and sometimes goes completely out. Even when it is completely out, the cruise control still functions. Any ideas? I don’t believe that a failing bulb could flicker on and off for this long without completely going out.
