Hi Eric (and forum members as well),
Thanks again for all of the great videos. They’ve been a lot of help over the years. I was hoping you could help me diagnose a tough issue with my 95 pathfinder (157k miles). After warming up for a bit the truck would suddenly start bogging down when I tried to accelerate, sometimes not revving at all forcing me to pull over. For some reason turning the truck off then back on again would help for a minute or so. It was intermittent but extremely frequent and could sometimes be overpowered by releasing the gas and pressing it down again somewhat quickly. I found a vacuum leak and decided to replace all of the vacuum lines. This helped the issue lessen, but it was still there. I only have an OBDII scan tool so I had a mechanic check the ECU even though there was no check engine light. There happened to be a stored code about the cam position sensor inside of the distributor throwing errors. The details described the exact symptoms I described, so I replaced the distributor. This made the issue much better, but after about 30 minutes, the car starting doing the same dang thing, albeit less frequently. I then realized that I hadn’t changed the fuel filter (looked like the factory original one) so I put a new one in. I thought I had it licked at that point after an hour of driving with no issue. However, during the second outing the bog came back! Again, it’s even less frequent now, but still there. I had a transmission guy rule out the transmission as an issue just to be sure. I also have noticed that the temp gauge sometimes runs as high as 1/3 below hot and tends to fluctuate between halfway and there on hot days. I did just do the timing belt, water pump, and thermostat, but I put an aftermarket thermostat in there. I keep wondering if the fuel system is just gunked up and after running for awhile the gunk plugs up the injectors a bit making it run lean, hopefully explaining the higher temps too. FYI, I had just put a new radiator and new coolant in there too, so I can’t imagine that’s an issue. I got the truck really cheap, so I’m only into it for about $2400 so far after buying it and replacing a bunch of parts, however, I’m trying to keep the expense as low as possible here. What would you recommend I do to troubleshoot this issue? I feel like I’m on the expensive guess-and-check path so far;).
