Hello everyone,
My 1995 Honda Civic won’t start after 2 weeks of not driving it. The car was running fine with no apparent problem before that. It was my daily driver for over two years now. I took a vacation and the car was sat for 2 weeks.
Yesterday when I try to drive it, the engine struggle to run for a second when I first turn the key. Then it died and won’t start. The engine cranks with no problem. Initially I thought it was just out of gas as I noticed that the fuel gauge was all the way down. But after putting some gas in, it still won’t start.
I then checked the ignition, all four coils sparks.
Then I checked the fuel pump. When turned the key to ON position, the fuel pump makes the sound for about 3 second. So it wasn’t completely out. To double check, I loosen the bolt on the fuel filter and turned the key to ON position. Fuel drips out but doesn’t seems to have much pressure. The car would seems to be trying to run but won. So I thought it was a worn out fuel pump.
Today, it became bizarre to me after changing the fuel pump and it still won’t start. I took out the spark plugs and saw all cylinders were wet with gas.
Things that I have ruled out are battery, starter, ignition, fuel pump, injectors.
I really have no clue what the problem was.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Much appreciated!!
Also I forgot to mention that the engine oil was really low to my surprise. It’s blow the lower dot and barely made it on the dipstick. I have just changed the oil in October. There is no substantial oil leaks to be seen. The coolant was also a little low.
While the car was parked, it rained pretty hard for a couples of days. But I really doubt it has anything to do with the weather.
Hondas seem to enjoy leaking oil. Not sure WHERE.

About the rain, there is a lot of humidity in the air when that happens and it does seem to effect starting. My sister has a 99 civic that had that strange problem. Of course she decided to get a newer civic as the old one was pretty much worn..

Also I think some honda engines have problems with burning valves.

You have to admit though that 240,000 miles is quite a bit even for a honda so it is going to have a lot of crap worn in the engine.

I thought less than 120 compression in any cylinder on the z6 was bad. Have you done a leakdown test to verify where your problem is. A compression test only tells that you have a problem nit always where the issue is

Okay! Here is a final update.
As strange as it may seem, the car is running now. There is no apparent problems to be seen after all.
I ended up calling a mechanic and he was able to start the car.
He first checked that there is spark, then sprayed brake clean in to the throttle body. But the car still won’t start.
He then took one spark plug out, inspected it, cleaned and re-gap it. He then asked me to crank the engine while he controlled the throttle. The car was able to start after some struggle. After that, the car can start up with no problem. I was like, WTH??? He told me that the engine was flooded and the spark plug was contaminated with fuel. He told me that maybe moist got into the cylinder during the heaving raining in the two weeks that the car has been sitting. That’s why it won’t start for the first time, I then flooded the engine for cranking it too much. I also told him about my compression test. He said my result was not accurate cus there is no way the car can start and run with that low PSI.
I did try the clear flood mode before but with no luck.
Anyways, I am happy that the car is running now.
Any afterthoughts?
Thanks for everyones help!
Okay, a wet test shows 100 80 60 120 accordingly. The dry test result was 60 30 60 90.
I can tell Im glad to here your engine with possibility of bent valve and very worn rings is running congratz..
just got a question .how did you check compression?
