try cleaning your mass air flow sensor with crc maf cleaner. next I would do a power balance test which Eric shows in a video.when was last time the vehicle had a tune up? do you have any check engine lights on? if you do than the codes will help.good luck and keep us posted. C8-)

i keep my 5.8 clean with seafome. but your O2 sensor might be bad as well. too much fuel is a common O2 gone bad.

Check engine lights? Even if the light isn’t on (the bulb could be out) you should check for codes. Here’s how on an OBD I Ford, along with a list of the codes.

Good luck, and keep us posted. Also, check the vacuum line running to the fuel pressure regulator itself, just for kicks. Make sure it isn’t cracked/broken etc.
Also also, check the wiring going to the ECT (coolant temp sensor). It should be a two wire sensor very near or in the thermostat housing. My F150 was running pretty rich. I replaced the sensor, and it helped some. I would add to check for vacuum leaks as well. Check the tube connecting the air box to the throttle body for cracks especially, and here is a video on testing for vacuum leaks in general:

I agree with the other posts. if the truck is running that rich, it should be producing a CEL.

Most auto parts stores can retrieve codes still for OBD1 domestics.

How many miles are on the truck? Did you check timing?

I would also do a compression test also.

+1 on checking for codes to start, you might also want to check the fuel pressure as well as the spark quality. Another thing to try might be a power balance test to see if it’s just one or two cylinders that are effected and not the entire engine.
