I have a 95 Chevy Blazer 4×4. While driving and when turning to the right, there is a significant jerk. I noticed power steering fluid was low and so I topped it off. It seems to be slightly better but still has a jerk in there. Is my power steering pump or gearbox going out? I’m not sure how to diagnose going about this. Any suggestions in what to look for to figure this out?

Please give some more details.
1) How fast are you traveling when you are turning to the right ?
2) How long has this issue been happening ?
Take a look at these videos:
1) approximately 25-30mph (this is going around curves) — and as soon as I turn the wheel to the right that’s when it happens
2) this issue just started in the past couple days
If you can’t the videos on here you can go to Autozone on YouTube. They have a channel and look up ” How to check the steering system ” Also they should have videos on Gearbox diagnosis.

I have done this.Still not really helping me after watching them.
My wheel is not hard to turn at all, just when I’m driving and need to go around a curve to the right, is when I get this jerk response. After refilling the power steering fluid when I noticed it was low, seemed to help some just not fully. After visual inspection, the power steering pump is NOT leaking. So I’m pretty sure its not the power steering pump. I’ve not had much experience with gearboxes but know that this is a possible issue to what I’m trying to explain to my problem. I even was thinking CV axel as well however, I’m not hearing the clicking noise you hear with that. So its just leaving me stuck as to where the problem lies.

Here is what I suggest. Do a comparison. Remove the Gearbox as well as the Steering pump. Take them to a part store and compare them to new ones. Perhaps they might be able to see what’s faulty with either unit. Here is another thing you can do. Remove both parts and take it to a Mechanic offer him $20 or $20 to look at both units and tell you what he things is the issue. There resolution lies with a faulty component. Look for anything that is out of the ordinary. eg. cracks, worn internal components etc.
I think you are very close to solving the problem. Don’t give up. There are a lot of people on here that can assist you.

Just took Blazer for another drive. It seems the steering wheels wants to basically steer itself. :dry:
You check the rack and such for the missing leaked fluid? Find where its leakin’, likely found the problem.
Ignore particular vid stated symptoms..
Thank you for your response, I see something on my steering gear box that dont look right the pitman arm attached to the gear box is not flushed up has an inch gap. IS THIS NORMAL??????????
going to take a picture of it.I’d just create an account on some free image hosting site. I use http://imageshack.us for example; once uploaded, the code for using in a forum is listed to the side; which you can then just copy and paste in your post.
Usually due to size restrictions (due to the much higher added cost for the site) it’s not worth attaching a picture directly to a forum site, as it either barfs and demands you resize it so you can’t view it as well, or it does it to the picture you upload on it’s own.
Well I think i found something, I took the front passenger tire off took off caliber bolts, found that the bottom caliber bolt was loose, so took them off lube them up put back on than that same bolt where it was loose found that the threads where stripped out. hmmmmm could this be my problem? everythiong on my steering gear box and pitman arm look good dont see any leaks. 😛
Well it is actually not the caliper, it is the houseing that hold the caliper on, which is all one unit with upper and lower ball joint attached. Do you think that is my culpit??????
