My son and I have swapped another engine into my ’94 Suburban (5.7L, 4L60E trans). We are hooking everything back up, but alas we can’t remember/find
what these two wires (see pic) connect to. The bare purple wire, and the other wire with the single round plug. They come up from the back of the engine compartment. I can’t for the life of me find the points we disconnected them from when we removed the old engine. ANy help would be most appreciated! Thanx! ~ Pop

Honestly I don’t know for sure but you might want to check the air intake. Sometimes when I have stuff left over like that it goes to a part I haven’t installed back on the engine yet.

It could be for the coolant temperature switch in the cylinder head for a gauge. If your replacement engine has one. It would be between the front spark plugs at the right front of the engine.
Some years it was on the other cylinder head.
Thanks guys. Purple wire turned out to be the connection to the solenoid terminal on the starter. Single wire connector hooked up to something low down on the passenger side of the engine. Thanks again!
Well I have the engine in, and have been driving the truck for a few weeks, and overall it runs like a champ. My Suburban with 305,000 miles on it has a new lease on life.
The only problem I am having is there is some hesitation on acceleration for the first .5 mile after a cold start (after the truck has sat unused overnight). It makes in hard to climb the hills to get out of my neighborhood. Sometimes the truck will stall and have to be restarted. But after that first half-mile, the truck runs, idles, and accelerates great.
The Check Engine Light is NOT illuminated.
Any suggestions as to what I should check?
You clearly reminded me of engine job we did on a fancy Olds. We had to disconnect entire harness, and job was done in the street corner. We plugged everything back, turn the key, all lights on digital dash come up – no start. It’s freezing rain outside and we are TIRED.
We look under the hood again, and there is a loose plug, exactly like smaller one in your pic. Covered by hood only, slowly soaking wet, we spend an hour looking for where to plug it. No can. We drive to dealership then, desperate, and ask to let us peak under same model hood. To our fury, it was simple hood light plug. We never looked up, as it was hanging down. How in the world hood light was designed to prevent car from starting, that I do not fathom. But it did. I got real drunk that day.
