Hi guys, just wondering what ideas people may have about the engine shake ive encountered with my vehicle. i made a short video so you can see the shake. seems to get much worse with the aircon off, the shake eases when the air con is on. vehicle really rumbles and is annoyingly bumpy at lights specially on mild days when i dont use the air conditoning.

Put your foot on the brake and give it some gas. Check for engine movement.
You should have a helper when doing this. This will check motor mount movement.

engine does not have excessive movement from their mounts when looking in the engine bay upon changing gears and flicking air con on and off.

additionally, I checked the autobox mounts just now and theve rotted out some. looked quite shredded up inside..both sides had a look at that general area whilst i had someone change gears and accelerating and i can see some vibration on the transmission box

tried to have a look at the pullies esp for the aircon but may have to do that in a few days when i have the time to get the bash plate off again.

did a power balance test? is the iddle speed ok or a bit low? if u rev it too like 1500-1800 rpm the shaking goes off?

not been able to do a power balance test, the idle speed is about 9000-1000, soon as i accelerate the vibration dissapears. car drives great!

Sounds like you think it’s the transmission mounts. You could also test for vacuum leaks.

its just a hunch although i dont want to go hunting after spares and such until im a bit more sure thats the case, tried to get a shot of them here – mounts

A power balance test is as easy as it gets. Fancy term for a simple task. While the engine is running, remove the spark plug wires, 1 at a time. Each should result in about the same RPM drop. If one results in significantly less RPM drop than the others, that cylinder is producing less power than the others.

A cursory vacuum leak test is also easy. While the engine is running, spray brake cleaner, starting spray, propane, etc. around the intake gaskets, vacuum hoses, etc. If at some point the engine races or stumbles, you’ve found a vacuum leak.

Okay guys, i have changed the tranmission mounts and some old exhaust parts i thought could be making the issue worse. Also brand new glowplugs tranmission fluid…Still lits of vibration when the air con is switched off. Starting to wonder if the one or more of thebelt pullies are malfunctioning.

I too have the same problem with my 2015 3.5l Pajero, Petrol, A/T. Changed Plugs, coils and engine oil. Also added Fuel system cleaner to clear fuel path. Checked with OBD scanner to find any faults with the electricals to get none. No broken engine or transmission mounts. I tried with 2 other vehicles and one of them has the same problem, which is when I concluded that mine is not an isolated case. I think majority of these Mitsubishi’s have this issue. I have even felt this on the L200 Mitsubishi pickup. Even the dealership has no clue and tell that’s how a Mitsubishi works.
Still curious, I appreciate if anybody has any suggestion or clue to our issue.

                        Thanks SIXSEASONSANDAMOVIE for this thread!
