I have a 94 Honda Accord with about 300,000 miles…daily driver, however speedometer comes and goes..odometer runs abbout 20% of the time for the past 10 years (had vss changed out not difference). Radio, dashlights and dome light have not worked for about a year. I have checked fuses…all OK. Any step by step checks with multimeter. I have talked to other Honda people and this seems to be somewhat problematic with this generation of Accords.

I have had problems with the dome light on my 94 Accord. Considering what might be involved, I ignore it. Radio and dashlights are solid, no problems there. PM me if you want the schematic.

I’ve seen lots of issues with door switches, you might want to check yours, a very inexpensive fix really. It could also have something to do with the dimmer switch but I would check out the door switch first. With any electrical issue I like to get my hands on a good wiring diagram and look for places where all of the effected circuits conect in some way. Good luck.

I released myself from the clutches of my couch and worked on my electrical problems some.

            • First off I had a bad bulb in the dome light
            • bought one of those little test lights to check for voltage with light bulb that lights up.
            • Found my electrical schematic and repair manual, one I downloaded several years ago
            • Need to get a can of contact cleaner/de-oxidizer and some dielectric silicone
            • I think my order of fixing will be as follows, if and when I repair I will report back, if I get stumped I will ask for help:
            1. get radio to work….no sound…..works about once a year
            2. fix speedometer
            3. fix dash lights
            4. fix crusie control
            5. fix digital clock

The speedo and cruse are probably the result of the same problem, the speed sensor, it’s quite common on that car. Your radio might just be a connection issue as someone may have gone in there and messed up the wiring. I would be checking ALL the fuses for the dash light problem and perhaps this might be related to the radio if they shorted out the right wire, same with the clock come to think of it. Good luck and keep us posted.

                Quick update

                • Got a bad dash dimmer switch, shorted out the back and red wire and have dash lights now…may or may not replace it…may get one at junkyard.
                • Radio…my lighter was shorted out from the hot coil falling apart…blew out all the stuff and now antenna motor works and more lights come on radio, radio still does not work decided to replace it with a cd player…it was making popping sounds before it went out…the caps on the output transistors are probably leaking and shorting out
                • Cruise does not work if the speedometer is working or not, not sure if VSS can be cleaned anyway down to the speedometer and cruise

Wow sounds like some real electrical failurers that you have there. As for the VSS it’s common for those sensors to fail, I doubt that cleaning it will do any good really especially if you have a code for the VSS.
