Short Version : I have a green square around the D4 blinking 1 and 8 I have a no start with fuel and spark to all 4 cylinders. its 94 honda accord LX 2.2L auto trans

      Long Version:

Hello, I have a 1994 honda accord that I recently did the Timing belt, water pump and all that fun stuff using eric the car guys video that was worth every penny, because that repair was much easier with all that info
      arou
I started driving it and I noticed it would occasionally have rough stumbling starts when it was cold, it no start once on me when it was hot and then started an hour later

then I drove it a short distance and it no started on me again, and I beat on the gas tank a few times (works on chevy fuel pumps for a couple more starts) and it started, however after research I found that the time i took trying to get it started and the driver door being open the whole time, the relay cooled down and the cracks on the solder came back together. so I found etcg videos showing how to pull the main relay and re-solder the cracks. so I did that and it starts but it was intermittently no starting so I dont know if that really did anything….

I also noticed my distributor was leaking oil out of the cap and watching etcg videos says to replace the distributor. So I replaced the distributor and used engine de-greaser and brake cleaner to clean all the years of oil dripping below the distributor and I also replaced a heater hose that was compromised by the heater hose… anyways while re-timing the engine, I noticed a green square blinking around the D4 and it blinked 1 and 8. the Honda tech forums says its transmission codes 1 and 8.

anyways I was planning on driving 6 hours with this car, so for piece of mind, I swapped out the fuel pump, after I did this, the car would not start, it would stumble, but would not start, I checked for fuel pressure and spark and was both…so figuring there was something wrong with the new pump, I swapped the old pump back in…. but it still doesent start.

Initially I thought The green square was engine codes 1 and 8 and 8 is a TDC sensor code, so I swapped in another new distributor….

Im still getting fuel and spark on all 4 cyl, but it will not start,

      any help is greatly appreciated.

must not be a common problem

You said you have fuel pressure but are the injectors opening? A failing ecm may fail to open the injectors. Just a thought.

Timing belt ? coil or ignitor common issue or main relay

Is there a way to test the ECM?

Anyone have any input on transmission codes 1 and 8?

Your car is too old to have a crank or cam sensor. So if none of the injectors are pulsing then the ECM is very likely to blame. The dealer is probably the only one that could test it, if they still have the equipment for a 94′. I would check for injector pulse first. Pick up a cheap mechanics stethoscope at autozone or harbor freight and when it fails to start, listen to the injectors while someone cranks the engine. They should all make a very noticeable click. As for the transmission codes I think 1 and 8 are for solenoids. I would start by checking the connector on the transmission for corrosion and clean it.

This car has a sensor in the distributor which is driven by the cam. D4 blinks transmission codes. Cel is for engine codes. There is a blue connector under the glove box. I believe you used it to get the D4 codes. If the ecu does not blink or just sits solid you might have ecu code 0 which means failed ecm. Ecu on these cars is under carpet at foot of firewall. You may need to pull the ecu and check for blown capacitors. Leakage is usually a black tar and usually smells like rotten fish

Well Looking back at this, My report back is taking way longer than anticipated. I ended up going out of town working 60 plus hours a week for a couple months. and came back and just stayed busy up until this point.

anyways, still having the same problems Ive concluded, that what ever transmission codes I have, do not effect weather this car starts or not, and Ill look more into those after I get her running again.

so I have spark and I have fuel pressure. I never checked the actual pressure, but it does pressurize the system when the key is in the on position and I can hear it turning on..

So I Pulled the spark Plugs. all 4 of them were wet, 1st one was really wet, and the 3rd one is really dark.. all of them look like crap in my opinion

anyways I ordered a new set of NGK’s (OE type) and some NGK Plug wires. should come in Monday or Tuesday from rock auto.

I also checked what Angry Smiley Face suggested, when I turn the key in the on position, the check engine light come on, and then turns off, which I believe is a good sign.

If this doesent work, Ill be testing the fuel injectors and get an actual fuel pressure reading.

Just going by eye, the spark plug gap on your plugs looks enormous. I would gap them correctly and see if things improve.

                        Your Right!!!

I either screwed up and had an extra feeler guage blade tucked under another one and didnt notice, or the electrode is really worn down.

                        Good eye!

well that seemed to be the culprit, Gapped the new plugs correctly and dropped em in, and the old honda fired right up.

thanks for all the input. glad to have this forum and ETCG videos available.
