Is this a stick or automatic car ? any cel on ? I would start with checking plugs , wires , air filter condition ( does this car have coil packs for each cyl or a dizzy ? ) if it has a dizzy check cap and rotor. do a fuel pressure test when was the last fuel filter change ? next would be a compression test both wet and dry and a leakdown test. do these tests then give us the results so we can offer you additional assistance. keep us posted.
Man, Dio’s all over it again. That motor will have coil packs I believe. CEL is important, as I’m wondering if you are having MAF sensor issues, or a leak in the intake tube behind the MAF. Check the intake tube for cracks, and make sure your clamps are tight. Then I would definitely look at ignition issues, as this is often the root of power loss under load. I’ve linked you a couple vids.
was the engine reviing high while the car went slow or was engine going slow with the car? If the car had loss of power than I would look at fuel
filter and fuel pressure. second electrical. if the engine reved high. than check the transmission. good luck and keep us posted. C8-)
I’m also wondering if it’s a transmission issue especially if it’s an automatic. +1 on checking for CEL’s as that would be one of your most important clues as that would give you a place to start. If you could give us some more info that would also be helpful but check the above and report back with what you find.
