Car runs good till it warms up. Then it just shuts off. Has a new ignition control module. Where do I go from here? The key has a little chip in it.Is the chip part of the problem or is it something else?

You will need an assistant and a pair of insulated spark plug wire pliers. When the car shuts off warm and won’t restart open the hood and remove one of the spark plug wires either from the spark plug end or the coil pack/distributor end. Place the end of the plug wire in the jaws of the pliers and while holding the end of the wire close to where you disconnected it from have your assistant crank the enginelisten for a cracking sound and look for a visible arcing spark.

You really need a helper but if you remove the ignition wire from the center of the distributor cap and take a good insulated screwdrver and stick it into the end of the wire. Hold it about 1/2 in. away from something metal on the engine by the screwdriver handle (so you don’t get zapped) Crank the engine and watch for spark between the screwdriver and engine. It should be a sharp blueish spark thats consistant.

Thinking ahead if there is no spark when it quits running it’s possible the crank sensor is faulty. They had a high failure rate. When the engine cools they start running again.

If there is spark you could have a shorted fuel injector. Another high failure rate item.

I’ll give that a try in the morning. Thank you so much. Will keep posted.
