Hey guys, I’ve got an issue with missing oil. I’m finding about 1/2 a quart low every 400 miles but it’s not on the block or the garage floor. I’ve replaced the a lot of the top gaskets as there was some oil, but I’ve cleaned the block and am not finding any now. There’s no big cloud of smoke when driving, but the amount of oil lost plus I’ve noticed that the radiator fluid level has been going down has me worried. I don’t see any huge build up on the spark plugs either, and don’t feel any power loss. Any ideas/tests I should run to narrow this down?

No smoke on standard driving, under hard acceleration, while driving but not when I rev it in the garage, there is some white smoke, but not heavy (I can’t see it out my window, friend following me told me). maybe a little fuel smell but I’m not sure, and not all the time. No noticeable drop in mpg.

Will see about getting these tests done. thanks!

              Compression tests done:

              1 2 3 4
              D| 80 100 90 90
              W| 100 120 120 120

don’t own a compressor, havent gotten to that one yet.

                Your compression seems low.

i agree 120-130 psi is fine, but 100 psi and below is not so good. Compression dropping to 100 psi means either rings, or valves.

try doing the test again (engine cold) this time squirt about 10cc of engine oil into each plug hole (test one cylinder at time) and then quickly do the compression test again. If the pressure now increases a little, the problem is probably worn rings/cylinders. If the pressure doesn’t alter, then it’s a valve/head problem.

but still i dont get why you dont see any smoke
