Picked up this beauty over the summer. Needed a winter beater/hunting rig. And lets face it, Male/Midwest US/#youneedapickup. I had an real nice Ford f150 when I started driving with 83k miles but sold it for a smaller, more fuel effecient manual tranny car.

After a trip through some mud and water..

Getting a tach and replacing the ignition switch…which turned into toggle switch ALL the things…

Getting the tailgate prepped for paint. The rest of the body is pretty good for being 20 years old, but I wanted to get a great tailgate on it. But I started a little bevved up and thought it would be a good idea to use a wire brush on a drill to scuff it up. Spent a good 6 hours body filling and sanding and it havent even seen primer. I know the inside of the tailgate will be bedlined, but im not sure on the outside.

So far all the brakes and bearings have been replaced and are up to par. Friday I am going to start doing steering and suspension work, as I have blown out all the shock absorbers…destroyed tie rods…the works really. The engine is alright. 167,000 miles on the odometer. Pretty sure it skipped a tooth sometime in its life and is running a bit off and the TCT is in need of replace giving me a good rattle at 2500 to 4000 rpm. Hoping to rebuild the engine and transmission in a couple of months. Second gear has at least one tooth missing and fifth gear has been completely ground off. Which is why I got such a good deal on it. Thankfully I still have 4×4 and everything in that department is good.

Why it needs new suspension and steering work

Plans are to put it up about 3 inches and run 33s. They came stock with 31×10.5s so with 3 inches of lift, I can run 33×12.5s…CB radio…and with the mechanicals fixed, I am going to add some lights on the bull bar, add a rollbar/light bar to the back, and turn it into a somewhat mean offroad pickup. Its only got a 2.4L KA24E, but I can supercharge it with some modifications and a nissan frontier blower or even turbo it…and the best part, its geared at like 4.375 with a 9.25″ ring gear…so its ready to go and I have not gotten stuck in it yet.

Last winter it was my bikes turn to get attention and it got a 100% killer paintjob. Now this winter/spring it will be my pickups turn to get turned into something pretty. Which isnt ideal, as I need it for the snow, but it will have to work.

Thanks for checking it out guys.

      UPDATE
Did some more body work and sanding on the tailgate, including a few hours of sanding and body filling. Got to spray some HB primer….got some more sanding and priming to do before I can spray color. Need to figure out what to do….Will post pictures soon.

I did get it primed. Still have some sanding to do before I can start laying down paint. Still not sure what im going to paint on it or what color. I plan on doing at least one good basecoat and coming in with the airbrushes and putting something cool down…but im lost at what I would do. And im limited because I have to do the Nissan logo. I didnt want to grind it flat and fiberglass it….and I do not have the equipment to weld in a panel.

Well…..need to replace all the shocks and its getting all new ball joints. Running me about 357 for premium shocks and ball joints.

Still need tie rods. Hopefully I can replace everything and get it aligned….and I may not be running it up on 33s…I may be dropping it down on the ground. My buddy got himself a SR20DETT and will sell it to me for 1300 dollars. So I may rebuild my KA24 and sell it with the tranny and everything and swap in the SR20….not sure what I would need it, or what I plan on doing with this pickup….or what purpose it will serve, but an SR20 is probably going to fit in somewhere….or maybe an sr20 up on 33s….

And the inside portion is bedlined…

Ordered some moog ball joints today. They were the top quality that Oreillys was selling, but got them online for half the price….Hopefully I can do that next weekend. Its about -40 outside with windchill right now and I dont have a garage to work in, so gotta find one to do the ball joints. We got a lot of snow recently and I canreally feel how loose the steering is now.

Havent had a lot of time to spray….got a couple sessions in. Just need to do some pushing and more pulling and maybe a couple more hours and I will be done. Then im going to spray a blue pearl over the whole thing and clear it. Still leaking brake fluid with the park break applied only….pretty heavy too… and i just replaced both wheel cylinders…no idea whats up…

Most of the suspension stuff is sitting in my living room. No garage to work and its usually -20 F plus windchill here….-55 on monday…need a nice day to get the work done

34 degrees today with minor wind. Got in a couple free hours to replace the left side ball joints. Man that was a lot of not fun….two bottle jacks in a parking lot with all hand tools…busted up a few knuckles. Took about two and a half hours to take it all apart and put in new ones.

Not going to do the other side. Its too late and starting to cool off…and every tool I touched became instantly covered in grease. Maybe tomorrow….

Well….turned out I installed the lower ball joint over the control arm instead of bolting it under it….So took another few hours to fix that.

Did some spraying on my tailgate. Finally got it put back on after quite a long few months.

Came out a little too purple for me. And it didnt buff out when I was finished either. Spent a few hours cutting it flat and no matter what compound I used…never buffed back to a shine. So I cleared it again after running it down with some 600 and had to leave the orange peel. Heard some great things about this clear and I dont think I will be shooting it again…
