Picked up this beauty over the summer. Needed a winter beater/hunting rig. And lets face it, Male/Midwest US/#youneedapickup. I had an real nice Ford f150 when I started driving with 83k miles but sold it for a smaller, more fuel effecient manual tranny car.
After a trip through some mud and water..

Getting the tailgate prepped for paint. The rest of the body is pretty good for being 20 years old, but I wanted to get a great tailgate on it. But I started a little bevved up and thought it would be a good idea to use a wire brush on a drill to scuff it up. Spent a good 6 hours body filling and sanding and it havent even seen primer. I know the inside of the tailgate will be bedlined, but im not sure on the outside.
So far all the brakes and bearings have been replaced and are up to par. Friday I am going to start doing steering and suspension work, as I have blown out all the shock absorbers…destroyed tie rods…the works really. The engine is alright. 167,000 miles on the odometer. Pretty sure it skipped a tooth sometime in its life and is running a bit off and the TCT is in need of replace giving me a good rattle at 2500 to 4000 rpm. Hoping to rebuild the engine and transmission in a couple of months. Second gear has at least one tooth missing and fifth gear has been completely ground off. Which is why I got such a good deal on it. Thankfully I still have 4×4 and everything in that department is good.
Why it needs new suspension and steering work

They came stock with 31×10.5s so with 3 inches of lift, I can run 33×12.5s…CB radio…and with the mechanicals fixed, I am going to add some lights on the bull bar, add a rollbar/light bar to the back, and turn it into a somewhat mean offroad pickup. Its only got a 2.4L KA24E, but I can supercharge it with some modifications and a nissan frontier blower or even turbo it…and the best part, its geared at like 4.375 with a 9.25″ ring gear…so its ready to go and I have not gotten stuck in it yet.
Last winter it was my bikes turn to get attention and it got a 100% killer paintjob. Now this winter/spring it will be my pickups turn to get turned into something pretty. Which isnt ideal, as I need it for the snow, but it will have to work.
Thanks for checking it out guys.
UPDATE
Did some more body work and sanding on the tailgate, including a few hours of sanding and body filling. Got to spray some HB primer….got some more sanding and priming to do before I can spray color. Need to figure out what to do….Will post pictures soon.I did get it primed. Still have some sanding to do before I can start laying down paint. Still not sure what im going to paint on it or what color. I plan on doing at least one good basecoat and coming in with the airbrushes and putting something cool down…but im lost at what I would do. And im limited because I have to do the Nissan logo. I didnt want to grind it flat and fiberglass it….and I do not have the equipment to weld in a panel.
