My 93 Blazer s10 won’t stay running. It starts strong then idles down until it stalls. Took it to a mechanic last week because it ran really bad (shaking and sputtering) he set the timing and a spark plug wire was crossed. Driving it back home it turned off and couldn’t start cause of dead battery. Charge battery then the trouble starts mechanic said try fuel injector so I replace from a junk yard (spider injector) still same. So then I replace iac same result. Before mechanic I replaced map sensor, plugs, air filter, fuel filter, and more. Please anyone help.

Parts replacement is not diagnosis. Start by figuring out what’s wrong and then address that issue. Don’t blindly replace parts hoping for a fix, it gets expensive.

I’m trying to diagnose it but all it does is start, idle down and cut off. I drew codes and it said bad iac so I replace it and nothing changes.

May not be the iac itself, could be something wrong in the wiring…

When I unplug it while its running the idle starts going up really high, then I plug it back in and it slowly decreases in rpm’s until it dies.

Based on the fact that it runs without the IAC plugged in that may be where you want to start looking. I know you say you replaced it but did you replace it with a used part? If so it could still be bad OR the computer is getting bad information and giving it bad commands. For that you might want to check to see if there are any codes stored in the computer, if there are then I would address those first and then recheck for the problem.

When you were replacing the IAC, did you clean out its bore, passages and the back of your throttle plate with a brush and carb cleaner? Sometimes they just get sooted up and no amount of new parts is going to fix it.

All passages have been clean and its a new iac

It’s not likely to be a problem with that then. As I said in my last post it may be getting bad information or the computer may be putting out bad commands. This may be beyond the DIY. You might consider taking it somewhere to be diagnosed. Also your salvage parts are suspect. It’s difficult to rule out if a faulty part was installed. Lastly, don’t rule out vacuum leaks as they can cause all kinds of issues including issues like the ones you have.

I made a smoke machine and didn’t see any smoke coming anywhere. I will take it somewhere and post the fix. Thank you for the help.

A good used diagnostic scanner is always a good investment. It will save you money by not going out and just trying to fix the vehicle by throwing parts at it and not getting it fixed. It will help you solve the problem with the right diagnosis. Then you go out and get just what you need.
