      Hey guys,

Needing some help from the Honda gurus. I´m going to see a 1993 Accord european spec with only 19000 comproved miles :woohoo:

Unfortunately it´s an Automatic but the car seems in excelent condition. It´s the typical story of the old man dying and his wife doesn´t want to sell the car so it stays in the garage waiting to see some sunshine…in 10 years only driven in the summer by his son and seems to only have been changed the oil twice in fifteen years….

      Questions:

1- What things to look out for in this particular model?
2- What is the engine code?
3- How is the reliability of the automatic gearbox?
4- Is this engine a good bet for an LPG adaptation?
5- How much money will I be spending for changing of the timing belt?

      Thanks for your help

Hate to say it but I would pass on it. If the oil changes have been neglected that much then other maintenance has been neglected too.

Vehicles that sit are often worse off than those that get driven all the time. The rubber seals and bushings tend to dry rot and the fluid settles out of the engine and transmission which can cause a lack of lubrication on start up. All that being said Hondas are pretty reliable however with one that’s sat for as long as that one has you may be in for many hidden problems down the road.

As for the timing belt I actually have a video on how to replace it available on this site.

            Hey Eric,

Thanks for your answer! The car has not been completely forgotten. The owners do start the car from time to time eaven though it´s not driven too far or for too long.
I have driven it yesterday for 45min and it really impressed me, no leaks, no smoke, the engine starts on the button and it´s really quiet. The temperature level is perfectly stable and the radiator fan starts working correctly.

Nevertheless the brakes were strange, when I pressed on the brake pedal it sank down far but it held pressure and the ABS worked fine.

Should I be worried about the braking issue? Could it be the brake fluid is too old that this happens?

Yes, you should worry about the braking issue. Here are some videos that may help you.
