I recently replaced the engine in my 1992 Jeep Cherokee 4×4 with a salvage 95 inline 6 cylinder (with a lot of help from ETCG’s many engine swap videos). However, now I am noticing that the transmission will not shift into overdrive or kick down to “passing gear” when i get on the throttle pretty good. Instead it starts skipping or slipping like its trying to shift but cant quite get it done. Before the engine swap I had notice no trans problems whatsoever. Does anyone know what this could be? Thanks in advance

That is going to be a version of a Toyota transmission AW4. Check fluid level, make sure you have all the ground straps reattached. The TV cable will need adjusted if it was disturbed. It may be different set up than the one in the link posted above. Some will have will have nuts on the cable end you adjust. Let us know how things work out,

Thank you for the replies. I looked at the TV cable and it appears to just be a push-button type so I will adjust it after I get out of school and see how it drives on the way home. I’Il get back to you on the results. Thanks again

I adjusted the TV cable in the parking lot and on the way home it shifted into overdrive but when it went to kickdown it started the slip/skip again. I assume it just needs moving a little in one direction or the other considering it improved after adjusting.
