Hello. I was hoping someone can give me an idea of the funny business going on with this F150.

First off, the truck will start and run,Took it around the block and it drove just fine, no missfires, nothing at all, once it’s shut off, it’ll not start after.

Fuel pressure from both tanks are 35-37psi

      New fuel filter.

      New TFI module.

      New plugs.

      New IAC

      Wires are all getting power.

      Pretty lost now.

You will need to determine weather it’s losing spark or fuel. Hold the coil wire one quarter in. from something metal with insulated pliers and crank the engine. If there is no spark a bad coil or pick up in the distributor could be the cause.

If it has a good spark disconnect a fuel injector and lightly touch the tip with the test light wire grounded and key on. You should have battery volts on one side. (red wire) Move the test light wire to battery positive and touch the test light to the other terminal and have someone crank the engine. The test light should flash.

It could also have a bad EEC power relay.

I don’t know the specs but you might check the operation of the coolant temp sensor. If that’s not working properly it can cause the symptoms you describe. Usually in the service manual there is a listing of resistance values at given temperatures. If the resistance isn’t in spec, you should replace the sensor and recheck for the issue.

Good luck an keep us posted on your progress.

            Thanks guys.

Ok, so the vehicle will start on the first crank of the day. runs fine under a load now, but still the same problems after. She’ll start under purge mode but only if I try to start it long enough, it seems to be an air issue. The injectors are firing, used the Mechanics stethoscope and can hear them ticking. Idles beautifully. I’ll check on the coolant temp next. I’m going to take out the throttle body and give that a nice cleaning as well. The return spring needs to be replaced.

            Updated new parts:

            Air:

IAC (Idle surfing again, will need a new one.)
            Intake tubing
            Air Filter

            Ignition:

            Ignition Coil
            Plug wires
            Plugs (Gapped properly)
            Cap and Rotor
            TFICM

Fuel:(Tank dropped and checked, pump is working as should. Constant 38psi @ rail)

            Fuel Filter
            New Fuel
            Fuel Pressure Regulator

            Thanks again guys.

Be careful removing the throttle body to clean it. From what I’ve seen on this forum, that often causes more problems than it cures. Besides, I don’t think it’s likely to have anything to do with your problem. Removing the IAC to clean it is another story. Those clog up all the time and cleaning that probably wouldn’t be a bad thing. One more note on cleaning the throttle body. Ford throttle bodies of that vintage often had a teflon coating that required a special cleaner. If you don’t use the special cleaner you can damage the coating.

                Noted, thanks.

I guess I can use something not too strong like MAF cleaner?

There is a special cleaner made just for Ford throttle bodies of that vintage. You should be able to get it at your local auto parts store. They should know what you’re talking about if you ask for Ford throttle body cleaner.

I work at autozone, all we have is CRC throttle body cleaner.

I hate to say but try another parts store or perhaps the Ford dealer.

Sorry, been busy, so the truck has been running fine. It was indeed the coolant temp sensor. Thanks guys for the inputs. banana:
