      so I just picked up a 92 Cherokee strait six 4.0L and after driving her home 600 miles she developed an engine noise, it almost sounds like well, like a diesel engine, its not really ticking and im stumped as to what this could be. any help would be appreciated, thanks.

        Hard to say. stuck lifter,rod knock,Piston slap.
        If you can make a video so we can hear it.That would
        be great.

          some of the 4.0 engines had loud piston slap,mine did it from brand new.
          I have seen some of the 4.0 engines make the noise up to the 200k mile mark.

            Did you check the oil level before and after this 600 mile trip?

              I Agree Check your oil level and what is you oil pressure gauge reading on a hot idle
