I have a 92 Accord Wagon and when i turn the heater on the air is not hot, not even close to warm. With winter approaching fast I need to figure this out! Has new coolant, bled properly, everything seems to be working fine except for no heat. Any ideas, suggestions or comments?? Thanks

September 14, 2013 at 1:27 am #544078New Thermostat was installed about 2-3 months ago, forgot to mention that the first time. There is no air, i bled it out a few times to make sure… i will have to check those hoses to see if they are getting hot.. thanks

September 16, 2013 at 5:35 am #544500Based upon what you have done I would suspect an issue with the heater control valve opening (for whatever reason) or a restricted heater core… Eric has a good video on how to flush a clogged heater core.

September 16, 2013 at 5:40 am #544501I agree with the above posts. Either the control valve or a clogged up core.
September 16, 2013 at 9:28 am #544519wow your engine compartment is *sick*. Is every part/hose brand new?
I had an Accord Wagon 91 and everything that possibly could have failed did between year 15 and year 20. Ball joints, fuel tank, oil pan, exhaust front-back, front calipers/wheel cylinders, blower motor, windshield, and the body had over 20 touch up spots and a full roof paint job… but I loved her dearly, as she rode low and with the EX-R sunroof, had the best ride/handling/comfort of any car I ever had no joke, and those sofa-like material chairs will never exist again. When I sold her for 1600$, her engine was leaking everywhere and so were my tears! Oh yeah and her TCU/ECU was so messed up that the 4-gear automatic box would go into limp mode all the time, plus I should mention that the cowl panel rusted through and the water would pool in the foot wells about 5 inches deep and create skating rinks for my rear passengers, which was cool when we went skating and actually had our skates on. LOVED the green accent lighting on the dash at night and the heating in the winder was on a dime. But seriously, If it wasn’t for the constant panic attacks I had while driving her, those country highway/road trips were the most satisfying drives of my life. Honda!, shape up, your new line is boring as bread! Bring back your wagons, seriously would blow out any other wagon (outback seriously!?!) on the market today. I’m thinking of moving to Europe just to try out their wagon over there.
September 16, 2013 at 9:38 am #544520Just replace any hoses that need replacing. I like to try and keep my engine bays clean. Looks nice, and can spot anything wrong fast.
September 17, 2013 at 1:43 am #544697Well i got lucky on this deal, turns out that cable was loose and i was able to get everything right, now i have great heat. I bought this car super cheap and it has been good to me, i did have a issue with my TCU but i was able to rebuild it myself. The rotors i just changed were not very fun either, with it being the good old captive rotors…. not a great design! Thanks again to everyone who had input!!
September 17, 2013 at 1:46 am #544702Glad you worked it out. Thanks for the update and the fix.
September 18, 2013 at 2:10 am #544979Was it the cable under the dash? It’s a common problem on that model. Once the cable pops off the blend door doesn’t operate.
Thanks for keeping us up to date.
September 18, 2013 at 6:59 am #545023Indeed Eric, the cable popped off, kinda funny thing happened to me this morning with me and the heater issue’s. I went to turn the heat on and once again it was like the same problem, im turning the heater knob to hot and no hot air… so i thought the cable came off again, so after work i started tearing into it come to find out the cable was fine, it was hooked up! Running around the car checking this and checking that i come to find the knob itself broke, the inner part split but it felt like it was fine. Glad it was just the control knob and not something bigger! Thanks again for all the input!!
September 21, 2013 at 1:24 am #545529Those knobs breaking are a very common problem. Just be sure to remove the black metal part on the peg inside the heater control unit. If you don’t, you won’t be able to install a new knob. I’m sure the Honda dealer has those in stock. Like I said, it happens all the time.
