So I got this engine from a garage where it was sitting for 5 years, I got the trans, linkage, mounts all kinds of stuff, old and new including energy bushings for all kinds of stuff for 125 and a nice road trip. So, my question is I know the basics, timing belt, water pump ect, but should I pull the head and do headgasket also? I provided pics, now two sparkplug wells showed some rust but that was here when I stored outside (covered) for a short time, and it was only two wells, the rest were fine. I took pics of the plugs so you can see the condition they were in, maybe there are tell tale signs there I do not recognize, I don’t know.

So, what steps for use should I take?

      Headgasket?
      Teardown and rebuild?

Let me know, thanks again for your time.

Washed the entire engine with soap and water.
No need to do the head gasket. spray all rusted
areas with wd-40 and wipe with a rag.

Prob is, if it was stored in a high humidity environment, or if it went through wet/hot/cold cycles, you get moisture condensing out onto cylinder walls and acid building up in the oil. The moisture can cause the cylinder walls to rust, and the acid will etch the cam bearing surfaces. The oil will congeal and cause the piston rings to stick so they’re not free to push out onto the cylinder bores. Now if you’re lucky, the sticking and rusting will be minimal and the glop and rust will work itself out. But sometimes the engine is just junk, with very high friction and low oil pressure and high oil consumption. Even an overhaul is iffy, as you might have to replace the crankshaft if it’s gotten all etched up.

You have a decision to make there. The engine appears to be well maintained. It’s very clean inside. Any idea of the mileage on it?
You will need to either disassemble it completely and inspect everything or install it and take a chance.

I would definitely get rid of the Autolite plugs for sure.

The engine appears on the external to be in good condition.
You need to run an engine flush. I am unsure how long the engine was sitting.
Also I would recommend a compression test and if this reads normal then you are good to go. banana:
