I’ve done a bit of reading on the web, and as usual, nothing but conflicting information. Some people praise synthetic fluid in the T-5, others say it’s the kiss of doom.
This was the best and most sensible answer I found:

Fluids are determined based on the materials used in the transmission, bearing clearances, and intended use. If you’re significantly changing those factors, then maybe a different fluid will work.
Borg Warner spec’ed Dexron ATF. Tremec spec’s Dexron ATF. You can believe the marketers or you can believe the people who cover the warranties.”[/i]
It depends on weather or not your T-5 is a World Class or not. The World Class uses normal ATF, while the non World Class does not.
