ECU testing is best done on the vehicle.
You will need a FSM to help diagnose this issue with the correct tools.
I would be thinking at this point in finding a certified technician facility and taking the vehicle in for service.
January 26, 2012 at 11:00 am #440417i called around to see if anyone can test the icm and ecm but they told me not it has to be 96 or newer and mine is a 91 S:(
January 26, 2012 at 11:00 am #440418If you are referring to the TFI module placed near the distributor, yes they can test them.
January 27, 2012 at 11:00 am #440419no ooked it up this is what im talking about 1991 FORD EXPLORER 4. 0L V6 : Ignition : Ignition Control Module (ICM) hear is a pic of it
January 27, 2012 at 11:00 am #440420I watched your video and your it shows that you have hardly any fuel. Does the gage not work or do you not have gas? In theory you might not have enough gas? Just enough to create the combustion but like you said when you give it gas not enough to keep the combustion going?
I don’t know this is just a thought.January 27, 2012 at 11:00 am #440421You will need to find some service information to help trouble shoot the issues with the vehicle, particularly wiring diagrams.
Many people keep suggesting testing methods but with no feed back from you. If you don’t have the the necessary tools, you may need to loan them out, depending on what you need.
There is never a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer in the auto motive world when it comes to vehicle issues. Its the job of the technician to use there resources, trouble shoot, find evidence and fix the problem.
May 8, 2012 at 11:00 am #440422how can i check the the relays that are under the hood ?S:(
May 9, 2012 at 11:00 am #440423remove the relay. with a set of jumpers apply 12v from the battery to the relays coil. with an ohm meter
check the no, nc contactsC8-)May 9, 2012 at 11:00 am #440424Lets not get ahead of ourselves and start testing relays just because we want to. You talked about testing an ignition component (the ICM) yet you say you have spark, I don’t see any point in testing the ignition system if you have spark. So my question to you is, do you have spark? If so how did you check it? Also you say ”it’s cranking but not turning over” this is also something of a contradiction so just to avoid further confusion is it a ‘crank no start’ situation that we’re talking about here or a ‘no crank, no start’ issue? I think this video would be great for review if it’s a ‘crank no start’ issue.
