I have a 91 civic hatch that has a no crank no start issue. I believe the problem is in the clutch/start switch or possibly the ignition start switch. Here’s the thing, it doesn’t do it all the time. How do i go about finding out exactly what the problem is and

If you are familiar with a meter, or even a test light, you could check for power and ground at the switch when the problem is occuring. If you have both, the switch be bad. You could also possibly by-pass the switch by simply wiring the power and ground wires together, but I’d have to have the wiring diagram to make sure. This applies to the clutch switch by the way, I just noticed you mentioned the ignition switch.

The most common cause of something like that is a bad starter, you might want to do the checks in this video to see if that is the case, if nothing else it should help point you in the right direction.

              Thanks Eric!
That video is very helpful! I’ve seen it a hundred times and still love it because it keeps me refresh on the basics.

Right now im waiting on the problem to occur again to see if im getting signal to solenoid.
Like i said it doesn’t do it all the time that’s what throws me off. It always happens when i don’t need it to, not when i have time to work on it.

I appreciate the response! If you have anymore suggestions please let me know!

I agree with Eric, sounds like more of a starter issue. Keep a hammer handy in your car, next time it happens get someone to hold the key in the “START” position and give the starter a couple taps with the hammer, if it fires up you found your problem. You can also check for power at the S terminal and it’ll give you the same answer.
