All the resource I have on changing out the upper control arm/w ball joint say nothing about marks.
My new moogs do not have marks.
the helms manual that i don’t have says something about setting the bushings to the marks.

Does anyone know about this? and what it does?

here is what i have found on line:

the lines have to do with the through bolts so the rubber is not twisted with the static weight of the car on that corner.

how to install without setting marks:
1 install upper control arm. leave the bushings loose
2 put jack stand under lower control arm.
3 jack up lower control arm so it is just off jack stand.that side of the car is now at ride height.
      4 tighten up bushings.
      done.

what do you think about this procedure?

If you place your jack under the outer end of the control arm, as close to the rotor as possible, and lift it up, that should put the suspension pretty close to where it sits at normal ride height. That is the way I did mine.

I thought this was going to be an bolt off bolt on job…. still not sure. I watched that video once before you posted it and again after. He just does it as a bolt off bolt on job with no talk of the marks that the anchors have to be aligned to.

I have only be able to find what I have summarized above from cb7 tunners.

why does must of my projects have little surprise in them for me?
this is why I try to look in to stuff before i jump in knee deep!

            thanks guys

Those marks just approximate the alignment of the control arm to the bushings when the car is sitting at normal ride height. So, you can either align them that way and tighten them to spec, OR you can put the weight of the car on the suspension, and then tighten the bushings to spec. Either way accomplishes the same thing.

bumping this old thread, now that Eric is back for his vacation maybe he will chime in.
I am hoping Eric has done a few and has an opinion on the matter.

That’s the difference between technicians and DIY fers. Techs are taught in Schools or Jouneymen to know this stuff. That’s why we make the BIG BUCKS  HAHAHA! yeah, right.

As already suggested jack up car by the control arms and tighten the bushing nut’s. I have done dozens that way without problems.
