90 DeVille,, 4.5 v8. Car ran great till smog time, Svc center got it to pass but basically destroyed my car, it’s never been the same since they had it. Here’s my problem, I stall when coming to a complete stop or slowing down ONLY when they fuel tank is less than half full. When it’s above 9 gallons, it runs great. New distr c&r and ignition coil, ISC motor, tps, alternator, fuel pump , battery good, for tested good, plugs & wires new, starter fairly new works great, stall reproduces in any gear including neutral, sender needs replacement (not a biggie) , only prob I have is gas tank leak! I use permatex which has been working pretty good, I had one pinhole leak, then another after a week, will replace tank when payday comes. I was concerned about the vapor canister, I gotta find out how to test that thing! I think my tank is just so old that the metal is getting weak and the pressure is making it constrict and leak.. I was getting p53 and e26, distributor signal interrupt and shorted tps, Changd both, cleared codes, patched up tank, filled her up, running great, and when fuel gets low I’ll post whatever codes I get. Please help or offer suggestions if this sounds like something you have encountered! Thanks!

What you need to find out is when it does stall are you losing spark or fuel.
I’m wondering if the pump is getting hot and stopping? Does it restart right away?

Thanks for the response College, yes it will start right back up, sometimes might take a few try’s . Got a new Delco ep378 pump, installed about a month ago

Btw, cat Conv is @ 2 years old, it seems ok, I’ll put my hand near the tail pipe and the pressure is pretty good and moist, there is no way that thing is clogged.

How many tanks of gas have you gone through since this started? If its only one or two the fuel level may be a red herring.
I’m with CollegeMan on the pump issue. Since its new maybe the wires leading to it are failing? Or there is a bad connection? Bad ground?

It’s possible that the fuel gauge is reading higher than the true fuel level in the tank. If you are running with a very low fuel level, (while believing your level is closer to 1/2 tank), you might be uncovering the fuel pickup strainer as you brake and the fuel sloshes around.

Far fetched but maybe there is an issue with the lines in the tank and it’s sucking in air? Is a possibility, just rare. Very rare lol
