Hi, my 1989 Ford Thunderbird Base Coup has been stalling recently, and obviously, I’m curious as to why. Here’s what I am doing when this happens. After parking my car at school, I hop in and turn the car. I let it idle for about 5 minutes, and then start trying to pull out. Ussually, I have to inch my way out, and as such turn the wheel a little and apply the brakes. During this period of time the engine stalls. I ran the koer diagnostic, and I the left side of the engine is running lean and the right rich. Anyone have an idea as to why this is happening? Oh yeah, it’s also an automatic overdrive transmission btw.this problem is more embarrassing than anything really, as I have to stop randomly on the middle of trafic and restart the engine. Especially sense I brag about my car more often than not… I’m 17 too, so any advice is really apreciated, sense I love cars, but hate not being able to do things myself and having to go to a garage. Thanks!

Does this happen at all times? (as in, won’t do it when it’s stone cold…but always does it when warmed up. or does it when it’s stone cold…when hot and at temp it’s great?)

And has the basic maintenance been kept up? Tune up and all that jazz?

It sounds fuel related. I would change the fuel filter.
I believe it lives just in front of the rear passenger
          wheel.

I would give the IAC and throttle body a good cleaning with throttle body cleaner. The IAC valves are known for malfunctioning on those cars also and will not set a fault code.

It might or not have a pressure switch on the power steering pressure line that increases the rpm while the wheels are turned. The switch or related components could be faulty.

All right, to answer a few questions: it only does it during somewhat hot days, like 70 and above, and I don’t think it has ever happened in the winter. While I can’t say I’ve ever done a tune on it myself, it only has 87000 miles on it, and the throttle body doesn’t look disgusting (though I will be cleaning it ) and it the throttle cables arnt stretched at all. The car was garaged by the previous owner, and I’ve only just started using it as a daily driver (last year). Only one problem with a bad wiring harness. Other than that, it been peaches and rainbows.
