My buddy bought this 1989 Ford F350 Dump Truck recently and the truck keeps breaking all the left rear hub bolts. Sheared every one of them like a clean cut, we then got all the old bolts out, installed new ones, and a week later same issue. I’m just wondering what would cause this, maybe over loading?? Also does anyone think the Hub itself will need to be replaced, this has happened three times now, something is going on…

overloading could be a factor. Are you torquing the wheel? Is this a dually
or single wheel?October 29, 2013 at 2:32 am #552826Yes it’s a dually, when repaired before everything was done right, with dealer bolts, and torquing them to specs. Do you know exactly what bolts I am talking about? Not talking about the lug studs or bolts, its hubs bolts themselves, there’s 8 of them… i could post or send a diagram of what exactly i am talking about if needed

A picture or diagram would be great. I think I know what your talking

Those Eight Bolts/Studs keep breaking/shearing off, like a clean cut after maybe two-three weeks of use…

in that far?October 29, 2013 at 2:56 am #552859I came across this video earlier and only watched a lil of it. I never went in that far, there doesn’t seem to be any problems with any bearings or anything, I just can not figure out why these bolts keep shearing off, it only happens on the rear driver side. I had been thinking maybe he is overloading the truck, or a combination of overloading and being to rough on the clutch causing to much strain??? Also these bolts don’t seem to be working themselves loose, when digging the broken ones out they are still tight…. also thinking maybe the hub itself is junk from this happening so often?

pressure on the hub/axle cover is something is pushing against
that cover to bust those fasteners clean off. either the axle

November 5, 2013 at 1:51 am #554434My first thought was a bent wheel. I was also wondering if it had something to do with the wheel alignments when you put the 2 wheels together. If the wheel is wobbling as it’s rotating, it could put too much stress on the studs and break them. If this is only happening on the one side, that’s where I’d be looking.
