Before you ask, I did address Erics video about starters.

      The truck is a 1986 Chevrolet C-10 swapped from a 305 to a 350.

The video linked explains it all. – https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/12184626/VID_20130802_132140.mp4

To fill you in on known issues. Ill make a list
1: Timing is a few degrees off
      2: Vacuum lines need replacing
      3: Brake master needs replacing
      4: whatever else haha
Now note that I had this running all week besides today! It ran perfect! Now, nothing.

The video does not really play. Is this a crank no start or
        no crank no start?

you need to see if your missing fuel or spark.
try spraying starter fluid in the intake and
see if it will run.If it does its fuel related.

Talking to my dad, (who owned the truck first) He says if the truck sits for more than a day and a half it wont start unless you use starting fluid. Though sadly, I don’t have any :/ and no autoparts store is open to pick some up.

It sounds to me like it’s flooded. Try holding the key to start longer to see if it will start running. I assume it has a carburetor.

Once you get it running, warm it up then do a compression test. I have a hunch you will find a problem.

Well, yesterday I got it started. I floored the pedal and turned it over… the thing ran at maybe 200rpm like literally! But it slowly built up rpms until something “let go” and it redlined. I let go of the throttle and it idled back to normal, but after I took it for a short ride, my previous problem with my throttle linkage sticking is back! So that sucks…

is it the linkage sticking or the throttle plate?
see if this video helps on cleaning the throttle body/
                    Plate.

Sounds like the engine is getting flooded heres what I would do. take the carb off and clean it really good make sure non of the needles are sticking or leaking. it sounds like one of the needles are leaking slightly and flooding the engine with fuel. when you do an oil change does it smell like raw fuel? this would be an indication that the engine is becoming flooded with excess amount of fuel.

College man, The throttle arm connected to the carb is getting caught up for some reason, its not the linkage but something inside the carb itself. So its not resting on the idle pin screw. Its done this before, but it seems like after I drive for a few days the “jam” goes away.

Skippy, I would like to take off the carb and rebuild it myself cause the gaskets are bad, but im afraid to do it myself. I don’t have the kind of experience that i’d like too, im only 16!

If it’s a quadrajet carb they were bad for the throttle shaft binding. The carb base is aluminum and they warp from overtightening the carb. The throttle shafts have a Teflon coating that wears off which contributes even more to the sticking condition.

Other than replacing the carburetor with one that might not be much better you can spray carb cleaner around the throttle shafts and try to free them up.

Sometimes a slightly stronger return spring also helps.

If youre 16 that’s the best time to learn, lol heres what I would do then. I would look up the type of carb you got on your engine and find some videos on youtube explaining how to rebuild a carb. or bring a laptop out with you and do it step by step, take LOTS of pictures on how everything came apart when taking the bolts off take a picture of the bolt in your hand in the hole that the bolt went then write down how many bolts like this you had to take out in order for the carb to come off do lots of research about how to do this and you will be just fine 🙂 this is how figure things out my self if I don’t know how to. 16 is the best time to learn lol and the best way to learn is to just do it. lol

wysetech, skippy, I pulled the carb apart and even after 200k miles on it the thing is clean! But I had carquest order me a rebuild kit so I could put some smaller jets on it anyway.. the truck just sucked SOO much gas its not even funny. Don’t quote me on this but I think the number stamped on the jets are .072 but either way the jets are huge. I took pics and video on how I pulled the carb off and how I ripped it apart, but im actually really confident that I can get this back together without help. My dad is making me fix my truck on my own, no help from him, so im on my own!

Well good That’s the only way to really know how to fix your truck when you just do it lol. I agree with it sucking so much fuel but then again it is a carbureted engine lol these never really got good fuel millage from the beginning lol ive got a 95 Chevy truck with the TBI and its not much better then a Carburetor but at least I don’t have to pump the peddle lol. Now just look up how to adjust the carb when you put it all back together.

Smaller jets will not be supplied in the carb kit. The metering rods have more effect in fuel delivery that the jets do anyway. There is a way to adjust them. Could be explained in the kit directions but I don’t think so. Make sure the float level is correct.
