Ok guys got a good one here for yall.

      Iv got a 86 dodge ram with a 360 4X4….
Its a awesome truck or was… Moparfan busted his as trying to help me fix this issue so i wanna say thanks to him… (Note to moparfan -sorry I lost contact with you for a bit bro our phone got turned off)

      OK here whats been done.
(New carb) There was a carb issue at one point but the guy I got the truck from rebuilt the carb for free for me again (DID NOT WORK) So he gave me a new one he had setting on the self…
      Leak down test passed perfectly.
Compression is 160 to 167 on all cylinders.
New coil – (The pickup coil in the dizy reads .295 on both wire sets according to my multi meter)
      New voltage regulator.
      New battery
      New plugs/wire
      New Ignition Module
      New cap and bug.
      Has true straight pipe duels.
EGR system has been bypased along with alote of vacuum lines.
      Vacuum advance line is missing…
Truck shifts awesome – Brakes tire lose at 35 when you get on her.
      4×4 works great – 2H 4H 4L
(Note truck ran fine when I got it)

Ok. Like I said the truck ran fine when I got it…
I drove it for a few weaks with out issue… Come home one night I went to pass a slow car and boy did I… Went from 30mph behind this car and I swear I was at 50 before I got around… Anyway looked down and seen i was doing 50 in a 45 so i backed off… When I did the truck died…

Went to fire her up and she acted like she had ran out of gas… I coasted to a fuel station -added gas and the engine steal would not idle (But would rev) got her home. checked what i could (Dark outside) but found nothing wrong… Next morning went out and she fired right up.
I drove over to the autozone with out issue (Like nothing had happened)
*Its 3 miles or so from the house to autozone)
I had the alt tested and battery (The tester claimed that the voltage regulator had failed) Got a new one…. Went to leave autozone and the issue was back – At first she low/rough idled then she woulden idle at all by the time I got home.

      Since then I have…

New plugs new wires cap and bug…
New ign coil (multi metered the pick up coil in the dizy) Reads perfect
      Voltage regulator
I had the card rebuilt = Iv even tryed 3 other carbs on the truck. (Carb did have a issue but was fixed)
      Fuel pressure tested and passed…
      New Ignition Module
      Iv checked wires.

It has goten better after all this… she will idle and rev again. but will start to miss majorly if more then 1/10 gas in applied while driving.

Now heres whats weird the misfire jumps… Remember those true duels I was telling you about…. Yea you can here the misfire come out one tail pipe (Lets say 3/10ths gas apply) misfire out of the left tailpipe bank 1 and 4/10th or more gas applied and the misfire will move to the right tailpipe bank2 (Clear as day -you dont even have to lesson to hear it)

The only two things I can think of is – A: A crossed plug wire. B:Theres something up with the vacuum advance… Maybe something was done to the advance and when I opened her up it came up done.

Like I said before- Egr system is gone – some vacuum lines are bypassed.
Vacuum advance line is gone. BUT The truck ran perfect with out it.

The only other things I can think of is a flat cam or stuck valve but that can be because you can here the misfire move… And it doesn’t do it in P

Someone tell me what Im missing… Do i roll her to the crusher or what guys.

Thanks all. Any advice is a god send..

Eric needs to do a vidoe on how to check for a flat cam or stuck valve lol…..

There no engine noise or clicking – she sounds smooth as can be…

The more and more i think about this the more i think there a short….

When the issue happed the first time – It was dark and it was the first time I had ever used the head lights – then the next day it was fine until autozone put there tester on it…
The battery and alt test basically puts a load on the parts and gets a reading. so maybe something was going out and there tester fished it off???

        What is the question….

Just like with any performance issue you need to do some digging and find out what’s missing during the time the problem occurs. I know this can be difficult with intermittent issues but it’s the only way unless you want to throw parts at it and hope. Sounds like there’s been some modifications done, if it were me I might be looking over these modifications to see if there was anything out of place. A lack of vacuum advance can cause issues, not a stalling issue but issues just the same. Also not a bad idea to check the engine mechanical such as for timing chain slack. I’m not saying this would cause the stalling but it can cause some pretty strange performance issues.

Remove the distributor cap and note the location of the rotor, mark it if you want to. Rotate the engine clockwise by hand and make sure the rotor moves with you. Then turn the engine in the opposite direction and see how far you have to turn the crankshaft before the rotor starts to move again. If it’s more than 7º of crankshaft rotation then you have too much slack in the timing chain and it should be replaced. Given that you’d be right there it wouldn’t be a bad time to replace the cam and lifters as well.

If memory serves you end up doing this a lot, you have a problem with one car and end up trading it for another. Not a bad way to fix things if you asked me.

Lol…. Well alote of it is a money deal…
This is the first one I coulden get running right but once again I did not really have the money or the (want to fix it) if you know what I mean….
The ranger I had I wanted to get going but it needed a new engine and I did not have the money at the time… I paid 50$ for it and solid it for 600$. With out the engine…

Im one of those ppl that pay what I want or I dont get it…. I sell it for profit or dont get rid of it….

A 50$ investment and A profit of 550 cant be beat… + the money I got when I scrapped the engine.

Other then the Dodge and the ranger. Iv never Had one I could-en get driving and running…

Not body work and stuff like that maybe different story lol.

                    This T/a isnt going anyware.

BTW I steal have my 93 ford f150 (BLUEMULE) That I had the day I first came here.
