1985 Ranger V6 4WD Manual Trans NoCrank / NoStart: it was running and starting fine, I parked the Truck that night and the following morning went out to start and would not turn over. I’ve replaced with New Batt, Starter, Starter Solenoid, all tested and working fine, cleaned all grounds in that loop etc…. Current Symptom: Depress Clutch, Turn Ignition Key and then hear Starter Solenoid engage with “CLICK” and that’s as far as it goes. I’m not sure if this year Ranger also runs the plastic plugin Starter Relay Switch and/or if so? could that possibly be the issue, or would it be the Clutch Position/Safety Switch? When I do a search for replacement parts, I see some list the plastic plugin Starter Relay Switch and others do not, I also no longer have the Owners or My Repair Manual for this vehicle finding out now my Ex tossed them on me now when I need them most for engine compartment fender mount Batt Box/Fuse/Relay Diagram, Interior Under Dash Fuse Box Diagram & Normal Operation Ohms/Amps/Volts etc. I’m totally stumped here?!? I’m normally a Mopar guy but picked up this little gem of a truck from a one owner with low mileage and was always garaged. Has anyone else run into this problem before with a Ford Ranger? Does anyone have any info or can someone point me in the right direction so I can find a solution and repair this problem? Please Help…… Totally Stumped?

Does the engine turn my hand?

yes the engine/crank does turn by hand freely as would it as when normal. I have yet to bypass all and try direct to starter, waiting for any feedback here in the case it could possibly be a relay or switch problem someone mite have encountered before and could give me a heads up… can also jump start the truck in reverse or 2nd with clutch, fires up no problem that way.

A few things come to mind.

            1. Replacement battery is not good.

            2. Need to do a voltage drop test to ensure enough power is getting through to the starter (may be resistance/ground problem)

            3. Safety switch on the clutch has an issue.

            More remote ideas.

            Ignition switch problem..

Starter gear binding with flywheel (crankwalk/spacer requirement)

            Good luck
