I’m in need of Desperate help. I have a customers 85 jaguar xj6 6 cylinder. The customer brought a starter/solenoid for me to put in because they thought it would take care of the problem. What their cars symptom was is their battery is fully charged 12v and all the lights are dim interior/exterior and when you try to crank it it acts like the battery is completely dead if your lucky the crankshaft will barely move at all and there’s no clicking or anything. I’ve had the battery tested as well and the battery is showing good. I installed the starter/solenoid and I’m getting the same exact results. I’ve tested power down to the starter and I’m getting 12v and that’s with key off. And with key on it starts at 9v and slowly drops the voltage example 8.7v then 8.3 7.9 etc. I stopped watching the meter at 2v I don’t know where to go from here or what it can be. Thank you in advance.

Are you able to check amps as well as volts at the starter? Also, check out this video for a possible parasitic draw.
I am able to test for amperage. Could you help refresh my memory on what the amps should be at the starter.
Will doing the amp test when the engine won’t spin. When I turn the key all that happens is the dash lights dim.
I would have the battery load tested again just to be certain. If it checks out good, start by examining the wires that feed the terminals for hidden corrosion. Go back to some basics and make sure the terminal leads are clean, etc. The dim interior lights are pointing to the battery as a possible cause. Best of luck
